Our Fibroid Services
We provide a comprehensive range of fibroid services, from initial diagnosis and consultation through to minimally invasive treatment and long-term follow-up care.
Clinic Consultations
Your journey with us begins with a thorough consultation with one of our specialist consultants. During your appointment, we will take a detailed medical history, discuss your symptoms and their impact on your daily life, and review any previous investigations or imaging you may have had.
Our consultations are designed to be comprehensive and unhurried. We take the time to explain your diagnosis, answer your questions, and discuss all available treatment options — including conservative management, medication, UFE, and surgical approaches. Together, we will develop a personalised care plan that suits your individual needs and circumstances.
We offer consultations at our clinics in Harrow, North London. Appointments can be booked through our online form, by phone, or by email. Most major private health insurers are accepted, and self-pay options are also available.
Fibroid Embolisation (UFE)
Uterine Fibroid Embolisation is a minimally invasive, image-guided procedure that treats fibroids without the need for surgery.
UFE is performed by a specialist interventional radiologist. During the procedure, a thin catheter is guided through a small puncture in the wrist or groin to the arteries that supply blood to the fibroids. Tiny particles are then injected to block the blood flow, causing the fibroids to gradually shrink over time.
The procedure is carried out under conscious sedation and local anaesthesia, meaning you remain awake but comfortable throughout. UFE typically takes between one and two hours to complete. Afterwards, you will stay overnight for monitoring before being discharged the following day.
UFE is suitable for the vast majority of women with symptomatic fibroids, regardless of the number, size, or location of the fibroids. It is particularly beneficial for women who wish to preserve their uterus or who want to avoid the risks and longer recovery time associated with major surgery.
The UFE Journey
Consultation
Meet with our specialist team to discuss your symptoms, review your history, and determine if UFE is the right option for you.
Imaging
Advanced MRI or ultrasound imaging is arranged to precisely map your fibroids and plan the procedure.
Procedure
A small catheter is guided through a tiny incision to the arteries feeding the fibroids. Tiny particles are injected to block the blood supply.
Recovery
You will typically stay overnight for monitoring and pain management. Most women go home the following day.
Follow-up
Regular follow-up appointments are arranged to monitor your recovery and assess the improvement in your symptoms.
Diagnostic Imaging
Accurate diagnosis is the foundation of effective treatment. We use state-of-the-art imaging technology, including MRI and ultrasound, to precisely identify, map, and measure your fibroids. This detailed imaging allows our team to plan the most appropriate treatment approach for your specific situation.
MRI is the gold standard for fibroid assessment, providing detailed images that show the number, size, position, and blood supply of each fibroid. This information is essential for planning UFE and for monitoring the effectiveness of treatment over time.
We arrange imaging at convenient locations close to our clinics, and we endeavour to keep waiting times as short as possible. Our radiologists personally review every scan to ensure nothing is missed and that your treatment plan is based on the most accurate information available.
